Mallorytown Pharmacy & Health Centre offers care and convenience

Mallorytown - Pharmacist Mayur Vadher's goal is giving rural residents convenient access to prescription services and health care.

It's why he opened the Mallorytown Pharmacy & Health Centre earlier this year in Front of Yonge Township.

"This community is very welcoming and very positive, says Mayur. "They're happy they have a pharmacy and a walk-in clinic in their own community and we're happy to be here."

A pharmacist with over five years of experience, Mayur found Mallorytown area residents, including a large number of seniors, had to travel for all of their medical needs. Many are now welcoming having these services closer to home, he says. His customer/patient list continues to grow daily.

"I found this is an ideal spot and I've had very good help from the township."

The full-service pharmacy includes a retail space with personal and home care products. This is paired with the Good Doctors Medical Clinics walk-in clinic which uses the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN). Manager Ashton Labonte says telemedicine is a way of bringing access to health care to under-serviced communities.

"We have nurses and IMGs (International Medical Students) working to gather patient history, vital signs and perform on-site assessments. Once we have gathered all of the pertinent information, we connect the patient via a secured video conference to one of our physicians. It's an easy way of bringing physicians from the big cities to remote communities," says Ashton.

Mayur envisioned a pharmacy with a health centre dating back to 2017. He secured a 3,000-square-foot facility on County Road 2 and began a complete renovation in 2018. He and his wife, Hiral, opened the business this past July and hosted a grand opening along with Township Council members in late September.

Flu shots will be available and Mayur says he will be offering other vaccination programs. He also plans to develop special clinics, such as foot care, and health awareness programs. For those afraid of needles, he will bring in the Whole Health virtual reality headset. It helps distract the patient. Mayur says new technology is another way of bringing better services to smaller places.
