Enjoying boat ownership isn’t easy when there’s no way of getting it to, or into, the water.

It’s an analogy that fits perfectly into a new initiative designed by the Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation and funded internally by the Kawartha Lakes Business Community Development Corporation.

“When I took over as executive director (in February 2020), it was always part of my vision to create a centre where the CFDC would serve as an anchor tenant and bring in other businesses and services that would create a one-stop shared resource environment for up-and-coming companies and entrepreneurs,” said Vince Killen of Launch Kawartha, a dynamic innovation and entrepreneurship centre.

Located on third floor of the Lindsay Scotiabank building at 165 Kent St. W., the 4,600-square-foot centre provides free services and fully furnished incubation workspaces for up to 20 new entrepreneurs in the Innovation Hub. Participants can access multiple in-house partners through the centralized hub for innovative programming, expertise, guidance, mentorship, and professional services. This includes direct access to government funding, finance, marketing and digital media, accounting and virtual CFO services, legal, intellectual property services, cybersecurity services and the latest in mental health and wellness services on demand and in real-time.

The centre, which was designed and completed using local businesses and tradespeople, is also accessible 24-7.
