Beking's Poultry Farm

Beking’s Poultry Farm serves a wide range of clients from neighbours to Ottawa’s Rideau Hall

OXFORD STATION - The Beking family likes to put smiles on the faces of their customers by providing great tasting eggs.

This third-generation farm uses natural farming methods feeding their 23,000 free-roaming hens a vegetarian, all-grain diet free from animal by-products, hormones and antibiotics. Their slogans are 'Direct from farm to you' and ‘Eggs the way they are supposed to taste.'

"We are a family farm with a focus on quality and freshness," says Cora Beking, who runs with farm with husband John and son David. They have more than 160 wholesale customers with fast delivery within a 100 km radius, including Ottawa. Beking’s supplies eggs to many high-end restaurants, meat, and health food stores throughout Eastern Ontario. You can also find them at farmers' markets and they are a member of Savour Ottawa, an initiative promoting the city and area as a premier, year-round culinary destination with robust offerings of local food.

"People like to meet the farmer. They want to know they're getting local and fresh," says Cora. Connecting with their customers is important and one of the reasons they continue to welcome customers to the farm.

The farm has been in operation for five decades. In 2005, the family retooled their barns to once again become cage-free like they had been in the 1960s. "We did our research and talked to our customers and we're really glad we did," says David, farm manager.

"Our name stands for a lot. People know our story, our reputation and our products," he says. The Beking family is very proud of their product and the longevity of their business. Both Cora and David are thrilled Beking eggs were served at Rideau Hall during a visit by Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ate them at Miller's Oven in Manotick. “We have lots of egg stories," says Cora.

In Leeds Grenville, their eggs are sold at a number of locations, including New Horizons in Brockville, The Village Pantry in Spencerville, Greenham's General Store in North Augusta, Heather’s Healthy Harvest and Albert’s Meat shop in Kemptville, to name a few.
