Leeds Grenville: Economic Development Officer

Position: Economic Development Officer, Permanent Full Time, 35 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Economic Development Manager, this position will support the Leeds Grenville Economic Development strategic initiatives through development and implementation of marketing and communication activities that supports international and domestic investment attraction and business retention and expansion.  The position will also provide digital business programming support.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Certification & Licenses

Post-secondary degree / diploma education related to marketing, business, public relations, communications and digital technologies with relevant concentration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience.

  • A minimum of four years experience related to marketing and communications in a business or government environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating, developing and designing content and imagery for external promotional materials in various mediums.
  • Experience in digital technology applications utilized by businesses.
  • Demonstrated experience with photography and videography.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, while under pressure to maintain high quality standards for content accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated political acuity with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to network, build working relationships with diverse stakeholder groups including industry, government and community leaders.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Graphic Design Tools (Adobe Creative Cloud).
  • Proficient in multiple social media platforms and website content management including development and editing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Ability to conduct economic, demographic and market research.
  • Ability to have some flexibility in hours when required to accommodate businesses and departmental events.
  • Must be willing to travel to locations within the geographic locations of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.
  • A valid and current driver’s license and use of vehicle is required.

KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create, maintain and update Economic Development electronic and print marketing tools to increase and enhance internal awareness and external marketplace positioning utilizing, but not limited to - websites, eNewsletter, social media, photography, video, promotional publications and advertising.
  • Compile demographic and relevant data to create regional and municipal investor profiles along with industrial parks specifications.
  • Support the development and maintain data for available lands and buildings in the region.
  • Research and increase digital presence through outreach and partnerships within Leeds Grenville, Eastern Ontario, Invest Ontario, Invest Canada and associated provincial and federal ministries. 
  • Support the creation of customized site selection investment profiles / familiarization tour documents.
  • Be familiar with and promote available government financial programs and partner business workshops / seminars that support economic growth throughout the region.
  • Develop media advisory and releases, and other communication pieces as required.  Work collaboratively with centralized communication staff and within the framework of the corporate communication strategy.
  • Research industry comparative digital metrics and prepare comparative reports for economic development measurements.
  • Prepare and submit reports as requested by the Economic Development Manager.
  • Prepare appropriate event communication materials and support as required.
  • Provide input and support the development of a marketing plan for the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville that identifies the Counties scope of products and services, audiences, competitive analysis and positioning, and media channels of promotion.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Economic Development Strategic Areas of Focus and annual business plans.
  • Attend meetings of various government, community and business groups.
  • Provide general digital expertise to businesses to ensure they have a basic digital footprint.
