Ontario East manufacturer moulds a bright future

Protoplast Inc. brings more jobs to Cobourg

A high tech manufacturing company with a proud history in Cobourg is looking to the future.

Protoplast Inc. (PPI) will expand its 50,000 square foot operation and modernize its operations. The province of Ontario, through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, will contribute $85,000 to the $850,000 project.

PPI www.protoplast.com supplies moulds and plastic parts to the manufacturing sector. Customer markets include automotive, electronics, medical, bio-tech, consumer products, business machines and industrial products. Each unique mold is manufactured and run on site, complete with finishing, assembly and packaging, conforming to the quality standard – ISO 9001. Finished products are shipped to customers world-wide.

In addition to expanding and modernizing its operations, the company will develop a new, environmentally-friendly fuel container designed to eliminate spills and minimize the release of fuel vapour when fuel is transferred to small engines such as lawnmowers or boat motors.

“The Eastern Ontario Development Fund is supporting our company’s efforts to develop new products, reach new markets and create and retain skilled jobs in Cobourg, “says Andy Rolph, PPI’s President and Sales Manager. “The PPI team appreciates this important investment in our future growth.” The investment will mean 20 new jobs at the plant, as well securing work for the 80 people already employed there.

“The Town of Cobourg is pleased that Protoplast has the confidence in our community to expand its facilities and modernize its operations,” says Mayor Gil Brocanier. “As a community dedicated to business retention and expansion, we are delighted that Protoplast has operated in Cobourg for 31years and hope they will continue to grow and prosper for years to come.”

Wendy Gibson, Economic Development Officer for the Town of Cobourg states that “we strive to foster partnerships with our businesses as well as community and government organizations. It gives us such gratification to see the results of our efforts and the positive economic benefits to Cobourg”.
