St. Lawrence College Hosted Career Fair Tour Resumes This Fall

Youth in Eastern Ontario communities are able to attend the Trade Roots career fair this fall when it resumes its tour through Eastern Ontario.

The fair promotes careers and educational opportunities in health care, technology, skilled trades, and other fields of employment. Bringing together local industries, businesses, educators, and employment services organizations, Trade Roots provides a venue for them  to provide information about career and apprenticeship opportunities as well as offering hands-on demonstrations of the skilled trades and other professions.

“We’re really excited that we can include a market like Ottawa in the Trade Roots tour this fall. It is very accessible and an easy way for local youth to learn more about career and apprenticeship opportunities,” said Charlie Mignault, Director of Business Development, Corporate Learning and Performance Improvement at St. Lawrence College. “Exhibitors from each local community will be at the fairs to answer questions and speak about the path leading to further training and education toward a meaningful career.”

The Ottawa leg of the tour is expected to draw over 3000 people and feature more than 100 exhibitors. In previous years, exhibitors have included the Ontario Provincial Police, St. Lawrence College skilled trades programs, Canadian Forces, and many more.

“As the Eastern Ontario economy continues to transform, St. Lawrence College will continue to invest services in communities with the clear objective of supporting training and job creation,” said Mignault.

The Trade Roots events will take place in the following cities in 2012 and 2013:

  • Ottawa Trade Roots – Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Nepean Sportsplex – Curling Rink
  • Belleville Trade Roots – Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Quinte Mall from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm
  • Morrisburg Trade Roots – Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm
  • Kemptville Trade Roots – Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the North Grenville Municipal Centre from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

The Trade Roots program is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy and hosted by St. Lawrence College, which is located along the St. Lawrence river and has campuses in Brockville, Cornwall and Kingston.
